There are four significant economic engines that are critical to the vibrancy of Raleigh, Chapel Hill and Durham; collectively referred to as either “the Triangle” or “the Research Triangle”. In no particular order they are Duke University, UNC- Chapel Hill, NC State University and the Research Triangle Park where many a graduating graduate students and/or former employes of one of the above mentioned schools will work at one point in their career.

Since its inception over 50 years ago the Research Triangle Park's vision has remained largely unchanged, but no longer. A week ago a new master plan was officially unveiled to the public and I will admit to being excited about the planned changes that will be taking place as I firmly believe they bode well for the continued economic strength of the entire area.

Details Of The New Research Triangle Park's Master Plan

The new plan envisions a more integrated synthesis designed to appeal to the creative class already established throughout Durham, Raleigh and Chapel Hill as well as to draw in fresh new innovators, entrepreneurs and jobs.

The first stage of the new mater plan calls for the development of residential areas within the park itself which will be built around a commercial village of restaurants, shops, a hotel and new conference facilities. Three sections of the 7,000 acres that comprise the Research Triangle Park are planned to be modified and with the public transportation changes either already planned or currently being considered I can imagine the Park as a truly energetic live/work hub befitting the entire area and insuring fantastic opportunities are available to future generations of graduating Duke, UNC, NCCU and NC State student to remain in the area, develop their families and careers right here, which bodes well for all of us.
