Living in Durham
Many locals love living in Durham for a variety of reasons. Its diverse population and friendly streets are perfect for people looking to live the metropolitan life while retaining the charm and welcoming attitude of a small town. Durham is the epicenter of arts, culture, and dining in the state. Many people regard Durham as the culinary capital because of the numerous dining opportunities. Everything from chic eateries to food trucks and barbecue spots are part of the food scene here.
Unlike the other areas I work in as a Realtor, Durham is a true city; its colorful, culturally diverse, filled with history, has an amazing arts scene and without a doubt is the culinary capital of North Carolina. From inexpensive taco and barbecue joints, Indian, Thai and vegetarian restaurants to nationally acclaimed gourmet four-star fine dining establishments and everything in-between. Durham's restaurants are continually found on Gourmet and Bon Appetite’s list of top restaurants and hottest tables in the country. To an ex-executive chef like me this is reason enough to live here. (I guess it's not surprising that Durham was named Tastiest Town in the South!)
Durham has a lot to be proud of. Duke University & Medical Center, NCCU, the Durham Bulls and Research Triangle Park. The arts scene in the area is also something to talk about with numerous galleries and a new world-class Performing Arts Center. There is always something to do in Durham. If arts are not your thing, you can take in a baseball or basketball game and cheer on the home team. Team spirit is huge in Durham and is often a big part of community involvement.
