Triangle Area farmers' marketsNow that Memorial Day has passed, our thoughts turn to summer; and one of the greates things about this time of the year is the availability of numerous fresh fruits and vegetables. While grocery stores stock up on all of the current fruits and veggies, there is nothing fresher than buying your goods directly from the farmer at your local farmer’s market.

Both Andrew and I are serious cooks, and one of the many things we love about living here in North Carolina is our access to high quality fresh foods.

The Triangle Area is blessed with a plethora of farmers’ markets, so there is no reason you can’t enjoy delicious fresh foods this summer. Many of these markets offer far more than just fruits and vegetables. Many offer a number of other foods

Car Town HallThe Town of Cary is a community of more than 155,000 residents. Situated between Raleigh and Research Triangle Park, the town is conveniently located, with Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and the Raleigh Durham airport all nearby. Duke University and UNC Chapel Hill are less than 20 minutes away.

Cary is the seventh-largest municipality in North Carolina, yet it is able to maintain a small-town feel due to the resources available from larger cities nearby. Many of the residents work in Raleigh and Research Triangle Park. Most of the residents have white-collar jobs as professionals and technology and office workers. The median income of the residents is among the highest in the state.

If you listen closely you'll hear the crack of the bat. Spring is running late this year but the 2014 Baseball Season is up and running here in Durham, North Carolina. From T-Ball all the way up to the Durham Bulls we are in full swing this April. Now I like baseball but I am not a huge baseball fan. However, spend some time at a Durham Bulls game and you can't help but become a fan. When my family and I were first considering a move to Durham one of my friends took me to a game. This one night certainly helped to put Durham at the top of our list of places to move. I was amazed by my first sight of the American Tobacco Campus and the ball park itself was also a sight to see. Now game night will be even more exciting with a huge renovation of the park

It’s that time of year once again; starting tomorrow 1/20/2014 it’s the annual Triangle Restaurant Week 2014, time to check out the many great restaurants that have bought Durham, Raleigh, Chapel Hill and the Triangle national (and well deserved) recognition for our food scene. I love this year’s motto, “Keep Calm and Dine On”

Unless you either don’t eat or don’t like food, this coming week is your week. You’ve got the opportunity to try 3 course dinners for $30 at some of the top restaurants throughout the Triangle.

Special kudos for Durham’s own Guglehupf Bakery/Cafe which just a few days ago was awarded the Good Food Award in San Francisco (this is the Foodie equivalent of an Oscar) for their Smoked Hogs Head Cheese (trust me it tastes much

The staff really care here. This place isn't just a museum where you can look and read about the subject, you actually get to participate when learning! They have live demonstrations indoors and in the outside areas, they have staff to explain the scientific principles behind the exhibits. It is a real jewel here in Durham.

“Best kid place in Durham”

We went with my two kids and my parents and spent the entire day. There were several exhibits inside that are more for older kids. There was a nice train ride outside (make sure you make an early reservation, it fills up fast) and a petting farm. The butterfly garden was well kept (and humid). There was a large exhibit for the wolves and bears in the back. My older child loved the dinosaur path. Free

We're just seven short days away from the kick off of the 2013 Triangle Restaurant Week and with the opening of so many new and exciting restaurants throughout the Triangle we're all going to need to work up a powerful appetite. Here's the perfect chance to try some of the places you've been meaning to check out. From January 21 through January 27, roughly 6 dozen restaurants (so far, I expect more to come) are offering fixed price three course dinner menus for either $20 or $30 and lunches for $10. It's a great opportunity to enjoy some wonderful food, catch up with some friends, support our local businesses and simply celebrate one of the many reasons that Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh, Cary, and the surrounding area are such wonderful places to live and

It's that time of year. Forget the Superbowl, it UNC versus Duke for the annual version of the ACC/Triangle Superbowl of Basketball. Here in Chapel Hill this evening it's akin to hosting the Superbowl, the Indy 500 and world Championship Heavyweight fight. I can already hear, Dick Vitale offering his version of, “Let's Get Ready to Rumble”

If there's one thing I've learned living here it's that besides knowing where the best Barbecue is; you need to pick a team and be proud of it. (Sorry NC State Fans, I know it's got to be difficult for you.)

Now myself I'm a Duke fan plain and simple. Sure UNC has a good program, but for me when it comes to excitement you just can't beat Cameron Indoor Stadium and the Cameron Crazies. As a Durham resident I also
