We're in Chapel Hill, North Carolina this week while I do some research at UNC, and of course we've been dying for some good, official southern food. After going up and down the main drag of Chapel Hill and finding typical college town fare we could easily get in Philly, we heard about Allen and Son. I'd never heard of it, but it seemed pretty well thought of by the locals, and we decided to try it for lunch as we headed towards an antique mall in Hillsborough. We made a good decision.

First there's CenterFest in downtown Durham centered on Morris St centered around the newly renovated Carolina Theater and the Durham Convention Center. A showcase for local North Carolina artisits of all sorts, there will be numerous free live shows as well as street food and more. It starts today (9/15/12) at 10AM and will open up tomorrow (Sunday September 16th) at 11AM.

My wife and I met with one of our friends on Friday evening at 3 Cups in Chapel Hill. 3 Cups is a small retail store specializing primarily in wine, coffee, tea and chocolate from small farms and producers. Their focus is on taste, quality, intimate knowledge of the source of everything on their shelves and in treating everyone involved in the transaction (the consumer, producer and their staff) fairly. Wow, 2011 flew by and was a fantastic year personally. Durham Date Night: Rue Cler & Carolina Theater in Durham, NC

Went out last evening with my wife and had a great time in downtown Durham. We started of with dinner at Rue Cler. Located in the heart of downtown Durham I've been by it countless times, stopped into their bakery on occasion but for some reason I'd never eaten there but after last nights meal, I know I'll be back.

Very much in the style of a traditional french neighborhood local restaurant, their focus is a $30 three course menu.
