Good restaurants in the Triangle Area

When you are looking for a great place to eat in the Triangle, it may be difficult to decide where to go to first. For an area its size, the Triangle boasts a great variety of fine dining establishments, and the number is growing due to the many foodies in the area. Southern Living magazine has even called Durham the "South’s Tastiest Town".

Here are some restaurants you want to be sure to try:

The Fearrington House Restaurant

This restaurant should not be overlooked for its fine food and luxurious style. It is located south of Chapel Hill in the The Fearrington House Inn hotel, and is the only 5-star Green Certified restaurant in the U.S. It is also heralded as one of the top 100 restaurants in the country. They grow their own food on the property, allowing them to provide fresh, seasonal food.

Death and Taxes

Chef Ashley Christiansen received the James Beard Award for Best Chef in the Southeast in 2014, and continues to make her culinary mark on her native Raleigh.

Her newest restaurant is Death and Taxes. The name of the restaurant comes from the building, whose prior occupants were a bank and a funeral home. The restaurant specializes in food cooked over a wood-burning grill, imparting a smart smoky flavor.

Lantern

Lantern is owned by Andrea Reusing and has been named as being one of "America's Top 50 Restaurants" by Gourmet Magazine. She also has won the James Beard Award in 2011 for Best Chef in the Southeast.

The restaurant serves a combination of Asian flavors with ingredients from North Carolina. They also host chefs from all over and let them serve their specialties. Special cooking classes are also taught here and many of their chefs have gone on to open their own well-known restaurants.

Herons

If you want truly a truly luxurious dining experience, you want to dine at Herons, located in the Umstead Resort in Cary. This Forbes 5-star and AAA Five Diamond restaurant presents the fine contemporary cuisine of executive chef Steven D. Greene and chef de cuisine Spencer Thomson. The settings are elegant and there is an art collection indoors. Diners eating on the terrace can enjoy a beautiful lake view. The food is contemporary and it is wonderfully presented.

Second Empire

This restaurant in Raleigh is located in an amazing restored Dodd-Hinsdale House, which was built around 1879. It has won the AAA Four Diamond Award, of which there are less than 500 in the country. The elegantly restored house matches the food and dining experience, which is sure to be unforgettable. Second Empire also offers a special opportunity to enjoy the Chef's Table for eight. Guests dine in the kitchen and enjoy interacting with Chef Daniel Schurr and staff.

Pooles' Kitchen

This restaurant in Raleigh started out as a pie shop, but gradually expanded to a full diner, and was a popular casual eatery since 1945. Sadly, the diner closed in 2007 and sat empty for several years. In 2010 chef Ashley Christensen brought it back to life as her flagship restaurant. She restored its original look, and now Pooles' Kitchen serves fine, local, seasonal food in a fun, casual atmosphere.

The Triangle is growing in its excellent food choices in the area. Everyone in the area, including those living here or passing through, are sure to find the restaurants here to be some of the finest in America.
