It's an absolutely stunning weekend and there's a lot of exciting things going on that have me excited.

First there's CenterFest in downtown Durham centered on Morris St centered around the newly renovated Carolina Theater and the Durham Convention Center. A showcase for local North Carolina artisits of all sorts, there will be numerous free live shows as well as street food and more. It starts today (9/15/12) at 10AM and will open up tomorrow (Sunday September 16th) at 11AM.

Also going on today is a benefit for the Durham Crises Response Center at the Grand opening of The Cookery's Front Room this will be between Noon - 3PM and will feature a food truck round up, lots of free music, wine and beer tastings and promises to be an absolute blast! Both these events are a great introduction into what makes Durham such a great place to live.

Additionally I was reading in the Durham News earlier this week that Eastern Carolina Organics is relocating to East Durham and will be setting up a hub for "value Based" agricultural business and nonprofits. I'm very excited about this for a couple of reasons, one it's a much needed shot in the arm for Eastern Durham which has suffered too long with the reputation of being the less desirable part of Durham. secondly it's going to help support the area's ever expanding focus on sustainable agriculture, local sourcing and developing entrepreneurs.

I also read that Save-A-Lot has purchased the old Winn-Dixie store on the corner of Liberty St. and Alston Ave. This means new jobs as well as a much needed Supermarket into the heart of Durham where's it's needed most.

Lastly, TerraVITA has announced the date for it's up coming third annual Food Festival in Southern Village in Chapel Hill coming up in November. This is a great gathering for true Foodies like myself. featuring top chefs from around the state, as well as many local brewers, distillers, and wine makers, farmers, etc. If you haven't been yet you should definitely check it out.
