Those of you who track me on Facebook saw the following posting earlier this week, you might have noticed this:

Remember when teachers, public employees, Planned Parenthood, NPR and PBS crashed the stock market, wiped out half of our 401Ks, took trillions in TARP money, spilled oil in the Gulf of Mexico, gave themselves billions in bonuses, and paid no taxes? Yeah, me neither.

It was prompted by some of this weeks real estate news.

Just two weeks ago CBS featured a scathing expose on the foreclosure fraud being perpetrated by the nations banks on 60 Minutes.

This week the bipartisan Senate Committee of Investigations released the results of two years worth of work squarely laying the blame for the majority of the financial problems on Goldman- Sachs. (Some of you are no doubt just as surprised as I am by this) There are even rumors that Lloyd Blankfein may face criminal charges.

Within 48 hours, Federal regulators ordered 14 of the nations largest banks to repay homeowners whom they had foreclosed on. Banks ordered to repay homeowners.

I know this is funny stuff, right? It gets even funnier if your listening to the national debate on how to reduce the deficit that is playing out between Paul Ryan and the GOP and President Obama. No new taxes scream the newly elected highly psychotic Teapartiers. Lower taxes cry the GOP, that’s how it’s done. Leaves me wondering why it’s the Democrats who are known as Pollyannas? In what world to the wealthy take care of the less fortunate. Are we to trust corporations to care for us? Really it’s just too funny.

Perhaps this is the answer to the country’s real estate woes: the banks will repay the homeowners they foreclosed on and once they get their checks they’ll be back in the market to buy homes again now that the prices have dropped. Any economists reading this who want to jump in and explain why in fact this is (or is not) a great idea, please feel free.

A Look At Local Real Estate Markets

Locally things are much more mundane, I’ve been exceptionally busy at work and have had little spare time, but found a few hour today working outside in our yard and garden trying to get caught up. Turned our compost piles, mowed the lawn, fertilized our shrubs, trees, and garden (organic fertilizers only) Angela planted some new annuals, lettuces, brocoli and cauliflower and started freshening up our large planters. I still want to get another raised bed in if I can find the time.

Started with two new buyer clients this week, one of whom I’ve gotten under contract. Also bought on two new listings that I’m very happy with and had one closing. This coming week I’ve got two closings scheduled, another buyer coming in, and I’ve got a market analysis I must get done on a lovely custom-built home on five acres in North Chatham county. Also expect to spend half a day attending a series of home inspections for a buyer client.

We got lucky and the big storm that did considerable damage in Raleigh, Goldston and other nearby towns passed us by we only got about ¾” of rain. Getting ready to fire up the grill and cook up some bison burgers and enjoy the rest of this beautiful day.
