Historical Homes With Modern Amenities

Trinity Park, Durham NC Historic NeighborhoodWith a robust economy based on tobacco and textiles, the Durham of the late 1800’s was a bustling town with fashionable homes, a new hospital, and a respected university (Trinity College, forerunner to Duke University). Nowadays, the central neighborhood known as Trinity Park has a spot on the National Register of Historic Districts and is home to a diverse, active community of residents.

Rich In History

Anchored by Queen Anne-style homes originally built for college professors, the area features homes in a variety of architectural styles including Victorian, Neo-Colonial and Craftsman. After a brief period of decline in the mid-20th century (similar to what many urban areas experienced as families flocked to the suburbs), residents banded together and formed the Trinity Park Neighborhood Association. The association was instrumental in halting hasty development and demolition of historic homes, and a priority was placed on restoring owner-occupancy. Trinity Park is comprised of approximately 40 square blocks nestled between downtown Durham and the East Campus of Duke University. The centerpiece of the area is a large park (the lot was originally slated for development, but purchased by a group of residents in 1980). The park is home to a playground, gazebo, monument, and spacious, shady areas to visit, play and relax. Throughout the year, it hosts a variety of concerts, festivals and other activities.

Contemporary Conveniences

Residents enjoy easy access to I-85 as well as a variety of shopping and dining. Northgate Mall, The Streets at Southpoint, Brightleaf Square and the 9th Street Shopping District are all minutes away. Durham is continually hailed as a top foodie destination, and its unique array of restaurants, pubs and nightlife are close at hand. Other cultural amenities include the award-winning Durham Center for the Performing Arts, Sarah P. Duke Gardens, the Durham Bulls Athletic Park and several museums.

Trinity Park is, in general, a high-demand area where homes sell quickly and usually at a premium. YTD 2015 (12/03/2015) shows that prices range from the mid $140,000’s to $800,000 or more. In 2015 the average single family home sold in this neighborhood had 2 bedrooms, 2 baths and was roughly 1800 square feet and built in the mid 1940's. The average sale price was in the mid $300,000 - $400,000 range.  Many historic homes have been lovingly restored to their original splendor, and several are on display throughout the year at one of the bi-annual home and garden tours.

As one of the oldest central neighborhoods in the Triangle, Trinity Park draws house hunters looking for unique properties and an unmistakable sense of community. Whether you are a first-time buyer or just looking to make a move, if the Durham area is on your list, you’d be well served to take a look at Trinity Park.
