The community was built in the mid to late 1990s and boasts the highly rated Mary Scroggs Elementary School part of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools district in the neighborhood, greatschools.org gave this school 9 out of 10! Market Street is the retail area of Southern Village anchored by the Weaver Street Market supermarket. There are specialty stores, pizza and coffee shops and professional offices.There is a wide range of housing options in Southern Village, from loft style apartments to large single family homes. 2015 YTD data (11/15/2015) shows that condos are selling in the mid $150- upper $200 range; averaging close to $200,000. Townhomes from $250,000- $400,000+ and averaging roughly $350,000. Single family residences from the high $300,000 to just over $1,000,000; averaging in the mid $500's. Due to the urban nature of Southern Village parking is at the rear of the townhomes.

Loft apartments can be one bedroom 700 square feet while the single family residences can have five bedrooms, three and a half baths and 3500 square feet. There are HOA fees and they vary depending on maintenance done by the association. The Southern Village Club is within walking distance and offers swim and tennis, martial arts, yoga and summer camps. The emphasis is on ditching the car and walking to school, the store, summer movies in the town square getting to know your neighbors.
Southern Village is a short distance from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill a gorgeous campus with a vibrant college atmosphere. Home to the Tar Heels basketball and football teams not to mention all number of other terrific sports and activities.
The Morehead Planetarium is on East Franklin Street and stroll down into Chapel Hill from here and there are countless dining possibilities to enjoy. Southern Village is located close to Interstate 40 for travel to Raleigh Durham International Airport, Research Triangle Park and Downtown Raleigh. The Blue Ridge Mountains are four hours away while the beautiful Crystal Coast of North Carolina is a short three hour drive.
