One of the great treats of living in the Triangle is the wonderful fall weather. There are many great activities to choose from during these fall months. It can be hard to take in all that Cary, Chapel Hill, Durham and the surrounding counties have to offer. If you are relocating to the area or have moved here in recent months or years having a resource to help you navigate the Triangle's fall festivities might be helpful. Fall Festivals

Festivals are a great way to sample the various small businesses in North Carolina. In addition to the local music, food, and crafts, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy the charm of each city.

Triangle Oktoberfest at the Cary's Booth Amphitheater

Music, dancing, and storytelling. Children under 16 get in for free and you can enjoy 2 days of fun. A popular kid-zone is available for families along with some competitive games for the adults, such as the Stein Hoist Competition.

North Carolina State Fair

Everyone should experience the North Carolina State Fair. It has many of your traditional fair activities, such as the Blue Ribbon competitions, amusement rides, and music. You'll also have the chance to grab a smoked turkey leg and delicious corn on the cob. Most people asking about the fair find it hard to resist discussing the latest fried food that makes a special appearance at the fair. Having tried the deep-fried Snickers bar, I can attest the delights you might miss out on if you don't make it to the fairgrounds.

World Beer Festivals in Durham

This fair has grown in popularity over the years. As North Carolina tops the lists for microbreweries in the United States, the World Beer Festival held in the Durham Ball Park is a unique experience, allowing you to be on the Durham Bull's field. The International Festival in Raleigh

This festival gives you a special opportunity to enjoy the cultural variety found in the Raleigh-Durham, Chapel Hill area. The area's many universities, bio, and tech firms bring in a great mix of individuals and cultures from around the world that enjoy sharing their music, dance, food, and stories. Visit the different cultural booths, enjoy the sampler plates of food, and take in the different arts and crafts from all over the world. Barktoberfest

Our dog lovers can enjoy the Durham Central Park's Barktoberfest. Four fun-filled hours that includes a costume contest, raffles, photo booths, and food trucks. Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival of Music and Dance

Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival of Music and Dance

With a packed schedule of events spanning four days across four stages, Shakori Hills hosts over 50 bands and performances. Held on a farmstead, ticket holders can camp at the event for an additional fee. The festival has dance and instrument workshops, a sustainability fair, kids activities, and vendors for food, crafts, and arts.

Pumpkin Patches in the Triangle Region

Fall weather, farms, pumpkins, hayrides, corn mazes, and picnics are a fantastic way to spend a Saturday or Sunday. Triangle area farms create quintessential experiences for families looking for a fall family tradition.

Perkins Orchard

Located off of Barbee Road in Durham, Perkins Orchard gives pumpkin pickers the option to paint their pumpkins, adding stickers, googly eyes, and a dash of glitter.

Page Farms Pumpkin Patch

Picking pumpkins from the vine, hay stack slides, and farm animals to adore are just a few of the activities at Page Farms in Raleigh.

Farmer Granyard at Upchurch Farm

Located in Cary, Upchurch farm is a joy filled destination with a haystack mountain, corn crib, cornfield maze, barnyard animals, cotton for the picking, and a pumpkin patch with plump pumpkins still on the vine.

Smith Family Fun Farm

Located in Hillsborough, the Smith Family Farm has a beautiful sunflower maze, pumpkins of all sizes, a hay ride, slides, and large fields to run. This family-owned farm is located just outside of downtown Hillsborough.

Haunted Houses in the Triangle

As we gear up for Halloween, the season offers several spooky events to thrill and frighten. Many of these events should be saved for adults and parental discretion is advised!

Clayton Fear Farm in Clayton

A trip to Clayton haunted scream park with seven terrifying haunted attractions. The spooky experience includes the Fear Forest Haunted Hayride, Slaughterhouse, and the Haunted Cotton Maze. During the day, they also offer other family friendly activities too, so check out thier website to learn more about their times and tickets.

Hillsborough Spirits Tour

The Alliance for Historic Hillsborough, in partnership with the Orange Community Players offers an annual spirits tour through the historic district. Spend an hour visiting the local landmarks and hauntings by ghost's of Hillsborough's past, such as William Hooper, signer of the Declaration of Independence. The tours are roughly one-hour long and explores several blocks of historic Hillsborough, so be prepared for weather and walking. Learn more at the Hillsborough Spirits Tour website.

Xtreme Haunt

This real-life zombie shooting experience gives you a scenario-based experience of trying to outgun (paintball) and outrun the walking dead. The experience leaves people wanting to return just moments later.

There are many fall adventures for all ages in the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill area.
